BREAKING: 4 Rivers Lawmakers Makes U-Turn, Rejoin Impeachment Plot Against Fubara, Odu

Four members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who recently withdrew their support for the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara have reversed their decision and have rejoined the move by the House to oust the governor and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu.

The lawmakers had earlier announced their withdrawal from the impeachment proceedings and urged their colleagues to suspend the process.

Those who initially stepped back included the Minority Leader of the House, Sylvanus Nwankwo, representing Omuma State Constituency, and Peter Abbey, who represents Degema State Constituency. The Deputy Minority Leader, Barile Nwakoh, representing Khana Constituency I, and Emilia Amadi, who represents Obio/Akpor Constituency II, later followed suit.

However, speaking at a press conference held on Friday in Port Harcourt, the four lawmakers said Governor Fubara had failed to provide sufficient reasons for them to maintain their earlier position.

They said the governor’s actions had not addressed the concerns that led to the impeachment process, prompting their decision to return to the fold.

The development came as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly reiterated their resolve to proceed with the impeachment of Governor Fubara and his deputy.

According to the lawmakers, the removal of the governor and his deputy was necessary to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the state.

LEADERSHIP reports that Governor Fubara and the Rivers State House of Assembly have been locked in a prolonged political confrontation, which has continued to generate tension across the State.
