Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has appointed Nollywood actress and producer Mercy Johnson-Okojie as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy. The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor, on Thursday in Benin City.
Johnson-Okojie is one of Nigeria’s most recognisable screen personalities, with a career spanning nearly two decades and over 200 film credits to her name. Her work has earned her multiple awards and nominations, including recognition at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
Away from the camera, she has built a reputation as a committed humanitarian through the Mercy Johnson Okojie Foundation, which focuses on women’s empowerment, child welfare, education, and healthcare outreach.
In her new government role, Johnson-Okojie is expected to draw on her wide public influence and grassroots reach to strengthen communication between Edo residents and the state government on policies and programmes.
